This weekend is Auckland Anniversary Weekend, so everybody in Auckland (full disclosure: that includes us) has a day off on Monday. Awesome! (for us). Everybody else gets a day off for their regions as well (maybe it's already been, maybe it's coming up, who really knows?), so you shouldn't feel too aggrieved.

 

You probably should feel aggrieved that we are doing a specific Top 10 list for Auckland's day off, though. That's a fair enough complaint. Maybe write to your mayor, or whoever you guys have running the place where you are, and tell them about it.

 

But, if it's any consolation, our list isn't very nice to Aucklanders, because we tried to get into the mindset of 'the rest of the country', all of whom have to turn up to work on Monday morning while we get to swan around in the sun, and are, quite rightly, not that happy with us.

 

So here it is, the perfect 10 songs for Auckland:

 

10: Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me

Yes we do, because yes we are. JOKES! (not really)

 

 

9: The Lonely Island – I'm On A Boat

Auckland is the City Of Sails, and nothing personifies the stereotype of the luxury seafarers we are than this modern classic.

 

 

8: Kanye West – All Of The Lights

If Auckland wasn't the City Of Sails, we think we could rival Paris for being the City Of Lights. Look! The Sky Tower is red and green tonight! Who knows what colour it will be tomorrow!

 

 

7: The Animals – We Gotta Get Out Of This Place

There's nothing Aucklanders like more than getting out of Auckland. So you will probably be saying hi to a few of us this weekend, because the city is like a bean bag with a hole in it, we are coming out in droves and there's no way you can stop it.

 

 

6: Androidss – Auckland Tonight

The only song about Auckland we could actually find. There should probably be way more. Somebody should get onto that.

 

 

5:  Adele – Take It All

Referring to: The Rugby World Cup finals, touring musicians, the best cafe's, and a whole lotta other things. Um, yeah, sorry about that.

 

 

4: Breaking Benjamin – Rain

Is it raining in Auckland? No? Wait 15 minutes and check again. If you are feeling ripped off that Auckland has a day off on Monday, don't worry, it will almost certainly rain. It always does.

 

 

3: Jimmy Eat World - Big Casino

The Sky Tower! And SkyCity! And that's pretty much our defining characteristic as a city. Yay!

 

 

2: James Blake – I Never Learnt To Share

This is just a good song. But also, see #5.

 

 

1: Carley Simon - You're So Vain

You're so vain, Auckland, we bet you think this Top 10 list is about you. Oh wait, it is, JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE!

But at least there's one thing we can all agree on, and that's that Auckland is the best city in New Zealand.
